The inundation began to subside about the 10th, and continued to fall rapidly during the rest of the month. Fevers have been prevalent during the month, but not in excess of the usual amount, and no cholera has appeared in the district. Though it does not fall within the record of the month, still, as the weather of the 30th and 31st presaged the event, it will be better here to give a short description of the Cyclone of the morning of the 2nd November. The weather of the 31st and 1st was blustering, rainy, and threatening, with strong easterly wind, and rapidly drifting scud. The gale began about 9 p. m. of the 1st, increased till about 4-30 a. m. of the 2nd, and gradually subsided from that hour. At first blowing in strong gusts from theN., the wind gradually veered round to N.E., E., S.E., S., and S."NV. Toward the evening of the 2nd it had become Northwesterly. The severity of the gale was over about 6 a. m Its force was extreme, and the damage done to houses and trees very serious. The majority of the trees felled point to the E. and S.E. A few also point N.E., but the E. by S.E. gusts appear to have been strongest. Luminous appearances were observed to the E., S.E., S., and S.W. during the height of the storm. There was no thunder nor lightning. I append a detail of the observations of the 30th and 31st October, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd November.
